Kidman was born of Antony David Kidman and Janelle Ann on June 20, 1967 in Hawaii. He acted in the theater, mimicry and acted during his days at university. The family returned to Australia when Kidman was four years old.

However, while working on the "Days of Thunder" sets, Kidman had a serious relationship with actor Tom Cruise. The two were married on Christmas Eve of 1990 in Telluride, Colorado. They had two adopted sons, a daughter, Isabella Jane and a son, Connor Anthony.

In 2005, he met Keith Urban, an Australian country singer, at G'Day LA, an event that honors Australians.
